1.11 Academic Calendar

The Academic Calendar establishes beginning and ending dates of classes and academic sessions, deadlines for final grade submission, final examination period, and academic closure dates, including but not limited to: semester breaks, spring and fall breaks, and other holidays. Except for courses held during the winter session, instructors shall not set deadlines for assignment submission or examinations during official academic closures.

Approval Process

The Provost’s staff should prepare in a timely manner a draft Academic Calendar based on the best available information.

The draft Academic Calendar should be distributed to and discussed by the Academic Senate, Provost staff, College Deans, Student Government Association, and other stakeholders as appropriate. The Academic Senate should endorse the Academic Calendar. Except in the event of a statutory change, executive action, or other extenuating circumstance which precludes timely notice, there should be no less than thirty (30) calendar days for review and comment. In those cases, notice should be given as soon as possible, but in no case should alterations to the calendar be finalized prior to such notice being given. In cases of statutory change, executive action, or other extenuating circumstance, the Academic Senate shall be informed about the changes, and the Academic Calendar shall be endorsed at the next regularly scheduled Academic Senate meeting.

The President makes known their approval of the Academic Calendar.
