The purpose of this policy is to ensure that every student who attends Illinois State University has access to a personal computer, as it is a critical tool in student success.
Illinois State University requires that all students have access to a personal computer that meets the University’s published minimum hardware and software standards. Students will not be prevented from attending classes based on an inability to purchase a personal computer.
Campus-wide minimum standards for personal computers are updated each year. TechZone maintains a listing of additional requirements and preferences that may be needed for specific majors or academic programs. The University provides a comprehensive technology support infrastructure to help students with purchasing personal computers, installation, troubleshooting technology issues, and training. These services include TechZone, Residential Computer Consultants (RCCs), the Technology Support Center, high-speed internet ports in residence hall rooms, and wireless access from most areas around campus. TechZone may offer academic discounts and the TechZone Service Center is authorized to troubleshoot and repair select major brands of computers. Additionally, the University provides select software free of charge to students to aid in their productivity and academic success.
University Assistance with Personal Computer Access
This policy will be periodically reviewed by the Office of Technology Solutions and changes or additions to this policy will be recommended by this office to the President of the University. Information technology resources and systems are changing rapidly both in terms of technology and application, and the University reserves the right to amend this policy at any time.
