3.1.7 State Employees Group Insurance Program

Policy

Employees of the University are eligible for insurance coverage and other benefits as provided by the State of Illinois Employees Group Insurance Program as set forth in the State Employees Group Insurance Act of 1971. Employees may elect to enroll eligible dependents in the State of Illinois Employees Group Insurance Program. Employees will have the option to change their coverage each plan year during the annual Benefit Choice Period.  Qualifying changes in status may allow an employee to make a mid-year change to benefit elections.

Benefits provided by the State of Illinois Group Insurance Program are administered through Central Management Services (CMS) and include, but are not limited to:

  • Health insurance, including behavioral health and prescription coverage
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life insurance*
  • Pre-tax savings options for medical and dependent care expenses*
  • Employee Assistance Program*
  • Adoption Benefit Program*

The Board of Trustees may authorize supplemental group insurance programs which do not duplicate coverage offered by the State of Illinois.

*Access to these programs is available to all employees who are eligible for CMS benefits regardless of enrollment in the health insurance plan.
