Work Week: All full time non-exempt administrative professional and civil service employees work a thirty-seven and one half hour work week. Note: All civil service extra-help and student employees work a forty hour work week.
The work week will commence at 12:00 a.m. on Monday and conclude at 11:59 p.m., Sunday. The typical university business day is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including an unpaid meal period.
Meal Period: The meal period shall normally be 30, 45 or 60 minutes, at the supervisors discretion with deviations made to accommodate University operations. An office, at the discretion of the Director or Department Head, may elect to close the office for the lunch period.
Rest Periods/Breaks: Non-exempt administrative professional and civil service employees may take breaks up to fifteen (15) minutes for each half day worked if this is the custom in the unit and with supervisory approval. Rest periods or breaks are not cumulative and may not be added to the beginning or ending of shifts, meal periods, vacation or to absences of any kind.
Overtime: Non-exempt administrative professional and civil service employees are eligible for overtime compensation at the rate of time and one-half whenever an employee works in excess of 7.5 hours in a work day or 37.5 hours in a work week. For purposes of this policy, use of benefit time counts towards hours worked. Overtime may be banked as compensatory time in lieu of pay in accordance with state and federal law up to a maximum of two weeks (75 hours). Note: All civil service extra-help and student employees work a forty hour work week and are eligible for overtime compensation at a rate of time and one-half whenever an employee works in excess of 40 hours in a work week.
Non-exempt Administrative Professional or Civil Service Employee Release Time: Release time is time away from work with pay during an employee's regular work schedule. Release time must be authorized in advance by the employee's supervisor and may be approved, based on the operating needs of the unit, for a variety of reasons including the following:
Release time is not ordinarily authorized for civil service extra help employees.
Collective Bargaining Agreements: Any employee covered by a collective bargaining agreement that addresses work week, meal periods, rest periods/breaks, overtime, and/or release time will follow the collective bargaining agreement.
